Ministry Of Steel issues the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2019 ; effective 22nd July, 2019

The Ministry of Steel (“Ministry”) has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality control) Order , 2019 (“Control Order”). The Control Order has been effective since 22nd July 2019.

The Control Order has superseded Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2018, which had come into effect on 13th August 2018.

 

The Control Order is applicable to steel and steel products specified in column (3) of Table 1 and goods and articles specified in column (2) of table 2. The Control Order will not apply to steel and steel products for export which confirm to any other specification required by a foreign buyer.

 

Key Highlights

The key highlights of the Control Order are as follows:

(a) Every steel and steel product mentioned in column (3) of table 1 should confirm to corresponding Indian Standard specified in column (2). The dates on which the standards are effective has been mentioned in column (5) against the corresponding Indian Standard.

(b) Stainless steel pipes should be made from stainless steel products specified in column (3) of table 1, confirming to the corresponding Indian Standard specified in column (2). The pipes should bear standard mark and should also carry test certificate of input material.

(c) Goods that are specified in column (2) of Table 2 should confirm to corresponding essential requirements specified in column (3) of the table. These goods should bear the above—mentioned conformity under a Certificate of Conformity from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme – V of Schedule II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

(d) Each steel and steel products mentioned in column (3) of Table 1 should carry the standard mark under a licence from the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
