FSSAI issues internal directions to standardise the Statutory Warning to be printed on alcoholic beverages w.e.f 1st April 2019

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) has issued a direction dated 27th April, 2018, regarding the statutory warning to be printed on the label of alcoholic beverages.

The FSSAI has directed the Food Safety Commissioners of all State/s and Union Territories to ensure that the following is printed on the label of all alcoholic beverages and implemented uniformly across all States and Union Territories from 1st April, 2019 –

“Consumption of Alcohol is injurious to health.

Be safe – Don’t drink and drive.”

Regulation 5.12 of the Food Safety and Standards (Alcoholic Beverages Standards) Regulations, 2018 lays down that the above requirement of printing the statutory warning in English Language.

The above warning may be printed in local or regional language, if any State prescribes the same. In such cases, there would be no requirement of printing this direction in English Language.
