Tamil Nadu PCB issues directions to the multilayered plastics / products of specified entities

In an attempt to make Tamil Nadu free from plastic pollution, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (“TNPCB”) has called upon all the producers/ brand owners (specified in the Annexure) to comply with the following directions within a month.

  • All the producers / brand owners will have to apply and obtain registration from Central Pollution Control Board / State Pollution Control Board as per Rule 13(2) of Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016 as amended in 2018 within a month and copy of the same needs to be submitted to the TNPCB.
  • Furnish details of suppliers / sellers to whom Multi layered plastics / products are channelized.
  • The Manufacturers / sellers of Multi layered plastics / products will have to coordinate with United Nations Development Programme to work out Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in line with the proposed integrated model for the state of Tamil Nadu.

The notice further states that all manufacturers / sellers of Multi layered plastics /products will not market their products in the State of Tamil Nadu till they have complied with the above directions.
