Ministry of Labour and Employment introduces the Draft Code on Social Security, 2019, invites comments and suggestions by 25.10.2019

This is a quick update to let you know that the Ministry of Labour and Employment (“Ministry”) has, in a notice dated 17th September 2019, introduced a preliminary draft of Code on Social Security, 2019 (“Draft Code”). The Draft Code proposes to amalgamate, simplify and rationalize the provisions of the following laws:

  • The Employees‘ Compensation Act, 1923
  • The Employees‘ State Insurance Act, 1948
  • The Employees‘ Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952
  • The Maternity Benefit Act, 1961
  • The Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972
  • The Cine Workers Welfare Fund Act, 1981
  • The Building and Other Construction Workers Cess Act, 1996
  • The Unorganized Workers‘ Social Security Act, 2008

The Ministry has also invited comments/ suggestions on the Draft Code. Suggestions/comments/inputs may be sent to Shri Sanjeev Nanda, Under Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Room 17, Ground Floor, Shram Shakti Bhawan, Rafi Marg, New Delhi – 110001 or by email at sanjeev.dom@nic.in in the format provided below. The last date for sending in comments is 25th October, 2019.
