Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change proposes amendment to the Environmental Impact Assessment, 2006

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (“Ministry”) has, by way of a notification dated 18th December, 2017, proposed an amendment to the Environment Impact Assessment, 2006 (“Draft Amendment”).

The Draft Amendment will be effective on 18th February, 2018 and any stakeholder or interested person can make any objections or suggestions on the proposal contained in the notification and address the same in writing within 18th February, 2018  to the Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Indira Paryavaran Bhawan, Jor Bagh Road, Aliganj, New Delhi-110 003, or at e-mail address gyanesh.bharti@ias.nic.in and sharath.kr@gov.in.

The Draft Amendment seeks to substitute the following items of the schedule to the Environment Impact Assessment, 2006:

(i)            (a) Mining of Minerals [Item 1(a)]

(b) Slurry pipelines (coal, lignite and other ores) passing through national parks / sanctuaries / coral reefs, ecologically sensitive areas [Item 1(a)]

      (ii)        (a) River Valley project [Item 1(c)]

(b) Irrigation Projects [Item 1(c)]

(ii)           Townships and Area development projects [Item 8(B)]

(iii)          the schematic presentation of requirements on Environmental Clearance of Minor Minerals including cluster situation in Appendix-XI and entries relating thereto.
