IRDAI issues Guidelines to Life Insurers for speedy settlement of life insurance claims of victims of Cyclone Fani

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India “IRDAI” keeping in mind the devastation caused to property and lives by the cyclone Fani, has laid down guidelines on quick and timely settlement of life insurance claims. These guidelines extend to Odisha and its neighbouring states and advises the following actions –

  • Register all reported claims and settle the eligible claims expeditiously.
  • In claims involving loss of life where there is non-recovery of body and subsequent difficulty in obtaining a death certificate, the process of Chennai floods 2015 to be adopted.
  • Adopt a simplified and relaxed procedure to expedite claims.
  • Publicize details of offices/special camps that are set up for immediate filing of claims to all forms of media and send the same to IRDAI.
  • Submit daily progress report for the claims settled for cyclone related deaths in Odisha and neighbouring states to ronanki.venkatesh@irda.gov.in andlife@irda.gov.in.
