In a notification dated November 17, 2017, the Central Pollution Control Board (“CPCB”) has issued clarifications pertaining to the categorization of industries dealing in solar power generation through solar photovoltaic cell, wind power and mini hydel power (less than 25 MW).

Background

The CPCB had received several representations from stakeholders, subsequent to the issue of revised classification of industrial sectors under Red, Orange, Green and White categories. These representations sought clarifications about the capacity of mini hydel power covered under the industrial sector namely “Solar Power generation through solar photovoltaic cell, wind power and mini hydel power (less than 25 MW)”, placed at SI. No 35 in White Category of the industrial sectors.

The CPCB has, therefore, clarified that the above mentioned category of industrial sector includes the following:

  1. Solar power generation through photo-voltaic cells, plants of all capacities;
  2. Wind power generation plants of all capacities; and
  3. Hydel power plants up to and including capacity of 25 MW.

Accordingly, CPCB has amended the former heading at S. No. 35 to “Solar Power generation through solar photovoltaic cell plants of all capacities, Wind Power Plants of all capacities and Hydel Power Plants upto and including capacity of 25 MW”.
