Chhattisgarh does away with requirement to renew registration of shops and establishments; revises registration fee for different classes of establishments
The Chhattisgarh Labour Department, (“Department”) has in a Notification dated August 5th, 2019, issued the Chhattisgarh Shops and Establishment (Amendment) Rules, 2019 (“Amendment Rules”). The Amendment revises the Fees for obtaining registration certificate and is also doing away with the requirement of renewal of registration.
- The Registration Certificate granted under the Chhattisgarh Shops and Establishment Rules, 1959 will remain valid till the date of closure is notified by the employer.
- Every registration certificate issued under Chhattisgarh Shops and Establishment Act, 1958 will be issued on payment of a fee as specified below in the table for that class of establishment. Provided that all employers who have obtained registration before 25thJune 2014 must compulsorily obtain registration after the amendment of these Rules.

Other States which have done away with the renewal requirement till date:
Punjab, Haryana, West Bengal, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
The state of Odisha and Rajasthan have also proposed an amendment for elimination of renewal requirement, however, the same is not yet notified.
