West Bengal Pollution Control Board to conduct surprise inspections under Air and Water Pollution Acts, effective immediately

In line with the Business Reforms Action Plan, 2019 under the “Ease of Doing Business” initiatives of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion under the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of India, the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (“Board”) has, in an Order dated 13th December, 2018, announced that surprise inspection or inspection based on complaints will be conducted by the Board with specific orders from head of the concerned office of the Board.

It has further been mentioned that the Inspections (except in case of complaint based inspections) will be limited to the checklists for –

i)The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and rules made thereunder and

ii)The Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 and rules made thereunder.

The aforementioned Order has been enforced with immediate effect.
