Very soon, Agmark Seal will no longer be a labelling requirement in Light Black Pepper packages, proposes FSSAI; invites comments / suggestions till 7th April, 2019

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) has, through a notification dated 8th March, 2019 issued Draft amendments to the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Regulations, 2011. The FSSAI has invited comments/suggestions from stakeholders on the same.

All comments/suggestions should be sent to the Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, FDA Bhawan, Kotla Road, New Delhi- 110002 or sent on email at regulation@fssai.gov.in by 7th April, 2019.

Under the draft regulations, amendments have been proposed with regard to Specific Requirements / Restrictions on manner of labelling of Light Black Pepper.

As per the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Regulations, 2011, clause 9 in sub-regulation 2.4.5, in regulation 2.4 has been substituted.

The draft amendment has been directed towards the packaging and labelling requirements of Light Black Pepper. The draft amendment removes the requirement of placing an Agmark Seal in a package of Light Black Pepper.

The current scenario dictates every package containing light black pepper has to bear the prescribed label along with Agmark Seal and the General Requirements for labelling.
