Unauthorised advertisement and advertisement structures will be considered illegal after 5th September, 2018, says Bengaluru Municipality

In furtherance to a recent ban on flexes, banners, buntings, flags, pamphlets and other such materials, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (“BBMP”) has issued a public notice dated 12th August, 2018 directing general public and advertising agencies to remove “advertisements and advertisement structures”. This is another step to make Bengaluru ‘PLASTIC FREE, POSTER FREE AND FLEX FREE’.

Do’s and Don’ts’s:

  1. You cannot put up advertisements on metal structures as they spoil the scenic beauty of the buildings and disfigure open places and such metal structures do not have the written permission of BBMP for putting up the advertisements.
  2. In case of putting up advertisements on metal structures, produce a written permission provided by BBMP to the Assistant Revenue Officers of the BBMP of that area on or before 20th August, 2018. If no such documentation is produced, the general public and advertisement agencies/firms are directed to remove the said structures voluntarily before on or 5th September, 2018, failing which, such metal structures will be considered as illegal and BBMP will undertake the following actions:

i. A complaint will be lodged before the jurisdictional police;

ii. Without further notice, after 5th September, 2018, take steps to remove such metal structures as per law;

iii. Also recover the cost of removal from the occupant/owner of the said building.

 BBMP has emphasized that this is a final notice and no individual notices will be sent in this regard.
