Telangana Government proposes to amend Factories Rules by introducing provisions for making available sanitary napkins in women’s toilets in Factories; invites objections and suggestions till 12.10.2019

In pursuance to the Model Factories Rules that was issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment the Labour Employment Training & Factories (Labour) Department, Telangana proposes to amend the Telangana Factories Rules, 1950 making it necessary for employers to ensure the availability of sanitary napkins for the use of women workers in factories.

This provision would be in addition to providing and maintaining latrines and urinals in the factories.

The amendment to Telangana Factories Rule, 1950 proposes to add the following clauses after the existing Rule 40 (iv).

Rule 40

(v)           Sanitary Napkins of adequate quantity conforming to Indian Standards must be provided and maintained in the women’s toilets for their use, and the same must be replenished daily.

(vi)          Disposable bins with lids must be provided within the women’s toilets for the collection of napkins. The used napkins must be disposed of as per the procedure approved by the Inspector.

The Department has provided a period of 45 days from 28th August 2019 i.e. 12th October 2019 to convey any objections or suggestions with respect to the amendment.

Any objection or suggestion should be addressed to the Principal Secretary to Government, Labour, Employment, Training and Factories Department, Government of Telangana through the Director of Factories, Telangana, Hyderabad.
