Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department appoints effective date for Chennai City Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act, 2017

The Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, Government of Tamil Nadu (“Ministry”) has appointed 24th April, 2017 as the date on which theChennai City Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act, 2017 (“Amendment Act”) shall come into force.

It is pertinent to note that the Amendment Act has revised the quantum of penalty for allowing filth to flow in streets as given in Schedule VII, for the entry in item relating to Section 202(5) of the Chennai City Municipal Corporation Act, 1919 (“Principal Act”).

Previously in Schedule VII to the Principal Act, for the entry in item relating to Section 202 (5) the penalty for allowing filth to flow in streets was Rs. 20/-.

The revised penalty as laid down in Schedule VII to the Amendment Act, for the entry in item relating to Section 202 (5) is as follows:

CommercialFifty thousand rupees
Multi-Storeyed building
ResidentialOne lakh rupees
