NPPA clarifies that the Hospitals / Nursing Homes / Clinics are allowed to add trade margins on orthopaedic knee implants as per the prescribed rates

In a recent notification dated 13th August 2019 the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (“NPPA”) has once again extended the timeline of ceiling price fixed for orthopaedic knee implants for a period of one year from 16th August 2019 up to 15th August 2020This is pursuant to the expiration on the earlier extension granted under a notification dated August 16, 2019.

Further, in an office memorandum dated 29th August 2019 the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (“NPPA”) has clarified that the Hospitals / Nursing Homes / Clinics are allowed to add trade margins on orthopaedic knee implants as per the rates prescribed in the notification, subject to overall limits of the ceiling prices.

It is further clarified that the ceiling prices specified in the said notification are inclusive of trade margins. The office memorandum has been issued in light of the event that certain Third Party Administrators (TPAs) are not allowing trade margins to Hospitals / Nursing Homes / Clinics on orthopaedic knee implants as per the rates prescribed in the said notification.
