Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship notifies Apprenticeship (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2017

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (“Ministry”) has notified Apprenticeship (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2017 (“Amendment Rules”) amending the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992 (“Principal Rules”).The Amendment Rules are effective from 7th September, 2017.

The following amendments have been brought:

  1. Rule 7(1A) has been added after Rule 7(1). The newly added Rule reads as follows:

“(1A) The period of apprenticeship training in the case of trade apprentices referred to in clause (aa) of section 6 of the Act, shall be as specified in Schedule-I-B.

  1. A new schedule, Schedule I-B has also been added (attached herewith).

Section 6 (aa) of the Act deals with powers of Central Government to prescribe period of apprenticeship training of trade apprentices who pass trade tests or examination conducted by a Board or State Council or authority or any agency authorised by the Central Government. Vide this amendment the Central Government is laying down period of apprenticeship training for trade apprentices passing out of Maharashtra State Board of Vocational Education Examination, Mumbai.
