Ministry of Labour and Employment amends Schedule of the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986

The Ministry of Labour and Employment (“Department”) has amended the Schedule to the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 (“Act”) vide a notification dated 30th August, 2017. The amendments are effective immediately.

Prior to this amendment, there was no segregation of the hazardous occupations and processes, wherein adolescents were prohibited from being employed. Now, by virtue of this amendment, a detailed list of activities and industries have been listed under Hazardous Processes and processes using inflammable Substances and Explosives wherein adolescents are prohibited from being employed. The list of such activities and industries are provided in Part A of the amended Schedule (attached).

Prior to this amendment, children were allowed to help in family or family enterprise after their school hours or during vacations, as long as their school education is not hampered. Now, under the current amendment, children are prohibited from helping in family or family enterprises. The list of such activities is provided in Part B of the amended Schedule (attached).
