Ministry of Labour advises employers against terminating employments and reducing wages or salaries of employees, including casual or contractual workers
The Ministry of Labour and Employment (“Ministry”), in view of the COVID-19 Outbreak, has issued an advisory for all the employers of Private and Public establishments (“Employers”), to extend their coordination by not terminating employees or reducing wages, particularly of the workers who are engaged on a casual or contractual basis. All workers on leave should be construed as if they are on duty.
Furthermore, if the place of employment is to be made non-operational due to COVID-19, the employees of such unit will be deemed to be on duty.
The world is facing a catastrophic situation due to outbreak of COVID-19, as a result of which there may be instances where the services of an employee are dispensed with or such employees might be forced to go on leaves without wages/ salaries.
The termination of employee from the job or reduction in their wages will not only deepen the crisis and weaken their financial position but will also hamper their morale to combat their fight with this pandemic.
