Ministry of Health and Family Welfare imposes ban on manufacturing of Oxytocin by private manufacturers effective 1.07.2018

In a Press Release dated 27th June, 2018, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has made the following announcements effective 1st July, 2018:

  1. Only public sector will be able to manufacture Oxytocin formulations for domestic use.
  2. Complete ban imposed on import of Oxytocin and its formulations.
  3. Private manufacturer not allowed to manufacture Oxytocin for domestic use.
  4. Karnataka Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Ltd (“KAPL”), a public-sector company, will be the sole manufacturer of Oxytocin for domestic use.
  5. The Oxytocin formulations meant for domestic consumption will be directly supplied by KAPL, to the registered hospitals and clinics in public and private sector.
  6. Ban on selling Oxytocin in any form or name through retail Chemist.
  7. All registered hospitals and clinics in public and private sector in the country are advised to contact KAPL and place their orders with the company as the drug will not be available with retail chemists or any other manufacturer.
