Ministry of Electronics and Electronic Technology rolls out the draft National Policy on Electronics, 2018, invites comments/suggestion till 15th November, 2018

With a view to the build a foundation to boost growth of Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (“ESDM”) industry in India, the Ministry of Electronics and Electronic Technology has formulated a draft National Policy on Electronics, 2018 (“draft NPE 2018”).

Comments and suggestions on the draft NPE 2018 are invited till the 15th of November, 2018 at soni.santosh.meity.gov.in

Key Highlights of the draft NPE 2018:

  • The NPE 2018 plans to promote domestic manufacturing in the entire value-chain of ESDM, including core components and materials to increase the domestic value addition and reduce dependence on import of electronic goods by focusing on scale, skill and technology.
  • It aims at strengthening India’s linkages with global trade, integrate with global value chains and build facilitative programmes and incentive framework to boost Indian ESDM exports.
  • It aims to develop capacities for manufacture in all sub-sectors of electronics, including semiconductor wafer fabrication and display fabrication facilities and create a vibrant, dynamic and self-reliant Fabless Chip Design ecosystem in the country.
  • It wants to build a risk-management ecosystem to promote and create a framework for a comprehensive Start-up ecosystem with focus on development of products, key components and technologies based on emerging technological landscapes.
  • It aims at promoting ease of manufacturing by introducing new/ innovative fiscal incentives and augmenting the existing ones for the ESDM Industry.
  • It aims at promoting Research and Development to develop electronic products forthe domestic as well as global markets.
  • It aims to improve ease-of-doing-business for the ESDM Industry.
  • Through the NPE 2018, Become a global leader in the Electronics Manufacturing Services segment by promoting progressively higher value addition in manufacturing of electronic products.
