Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board fixes 5th July 2017 as the date for obtaining authorization under the new Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016

In a Public Notice dated 5th May, 2017, the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (“MEGSPCB”) has fixed 5th July, 2017 as the date for obtaining authorization from the MEGSPCB.

 

To obtain the authorisation, the following persons are required to apply in Form II, irrespective of the size/number of patients/quantity of bio-medical waste generated.

 

“All persons who generate, collect, receive, store, transport, treat, dispose, or handle bio medical waste in any form including hospitals, nursing homes, clinics,dispensaries, veterinary institutions, animal houses, pathological laboratories, blood banks, ayush hospitals, clinical establishments, research or educational institutions, health camps, medical or surgical camps, vaccination camps, blood donation camps, first aid rooms of schools, forensic laboratories and research labs.”

 

On failing to comply with the above requirement, penal consequences amounting to imprisonment for a period of 5 years or a fine of one lac rupees or both under the provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 will be imposed.
