Medicines procured under Public Procurement from 1st April, 2019 must have Bar Code /QR Code at primary level packaging

In a move to partially modify its earlier Order dated 1st January, 2019 [i.e. Government Procuring Entities must give purchase preference to local suppliers of Pharmaceutical Formulations], the Department of Pharmaceuticals (“Department”) has, in a recent Order dated 14th January, 2019 inserted a new para which states that the medicines procured under Public Procurement from 1st April, 2019 must have Bar Code / QR Code at primary level packaging. This Code must mandatorily contain Name of the product including strength, brand name (if there is any), MRP, name and address of the Manufacturer, Batch Number, Manufacturing date, expiry date, special storage conditions required (if any) and Manufacturing license number.

Other aspects of the earlier Order remain unchanged.
