Industrial units in Kerala, requiring consent under Air and Water Act, to make their Effluent Treatment plants fully operational by 21st May, 2017

The Kerala State Pollution Control Board (“KSPCB”) has issued a notice directing all the industrial units operating in the state of Kerala, requiring to obtainconsent to operate (“CTO”) under Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, from KSPCB, to make their primary effluent treatment plant fully operational by 21sty May 2017.

This notice has been issued pursuant to the order of the Hon. Supreme Court of India in the matter of Paryavaran Suraksha Samity and Anr. Vs. Union of India and Ors. (W.P.(C) No. 375 of 2012) (Attached herewith).

The KSPCB will issue order of disconnection of electricity against the defaulting industry and also from further industrial activity if the effluent treatment plant is not fully operational by 21st May, 2017.
