FSSAI proposes to add Processing Aids under Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) issued the Draft Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Amendment Regulations, 2018 (“Draft Amendment Regulations”) to amend the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011 (“Regulations”). The Draft Amendment Rules propose to add a new Regulation 3.4 pertaining to “Processing Aids”. The processing aids listed under the Draft Amendment Rules are recognised as suitable for use in foods and have been assigned an Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) or are determined (wherever applicable) on the basis of other criteria, to be safe. Use of processing aids in conformance with these Regulations is considered to be technologically justified.

FSSAI has invited comments and suggestions from the stakeholders on the FSSAI (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulation, 2011 in relation to Processing Aids.

The comments and suggestions  must be sent in the prescribed format,  addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, 3rd Floor, Food and Drug Administration Bhawan, Kotla Road, New Delhi – 110002 or e-mailed to regulation@fssai.gov.in within 10th September 2018.
