FSSAI extends the date for implementation of the order on disposal of Used Cooking Oil till 30th May, 2019; FBOs to comply by 1st June, 2019

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”) had previously issued directions that Food Business Operators (“FBOs”) whose consumption of edible oils for frying is more than 50 litres per day will have to maintain records and dispose used cooking oil to agencies authorized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India or Commissioner of Food Safety of States/ Union Territories from time to time and the FBOs were previously to comply with this method of disposal by 1st March, 2019.

In order to ensure adequate mechanisms for authorisation of agencies and collection of used cooking oil are in place, FSSAI in a recent notification on 28th February, 2019 has deferred the implementation of the order by three months, that is till 30th May, 2019 and FBOs to the order comply by 1st June, 2019.
