EPFO instructs refund of PF accumulations to Japanese expatriate workers

In a circular dated 1st September, 2017, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (“EPFO”) has instructed establishments to refund EPF accumulations and process EPF/EPS withdrawals /final settlements to Japanese expatriate workers working in India as well as those who left India prior to 1st October, 2016.

In the said circular, the EPFO has stated that the India-Japan SSA has been effective since 1st October 2016, thereby eliminating the need to deposit EPF/EPS contributions for Japanese expatriate under the Employees’ Provident Funds & Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952.
