Department of Food and Public Distribution directs producers of sugar to refrain from holding stock of sugar in excess of stipulated quantities

The Department of Food and Public Distribution (“Department”) issued an order on 28th August, 2017 directing producers of sugar to refrain from holding stock of sugar, in excess of quantities at the end of the months, as mentioned below:

  1. September, 2017: 21% of the total sugar available with them during 2016-2017 sugar season
  2. October, 2017: 8% of the total sugar available with them during 2016-2017 sugar season.

It has been further informed that the total availability of sugar with individual producers will be calculated in the following manner:

“Opening stock of sugar as on 1st October, 2016 + Sugar produced during 2016-2017 sugar season – sugar exported during 2016-2017 sugar season + sugar imported during 2016-2017 season”

The order is effective since 28th August, 2017.
