Certificate of Analysis to be accompanied with consignment must not be more than 3 months old from the date of despatch from exporting country, effective 1st January, 2020; says FSSAI

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (“FSSAI”), dated 11th October, 2019, has stated that Certificate of Analysis to be accompanied with consignment must not be more than 3 months old from the date of despatch from exporting country, effective 1st January, 2020.

Background:

As per the Food Safety and Standards (Import) Regulations, 2017, imported proprietary foods must be tested for quality parameters as per Certificate of Analysis from exporting country submitted by importer and safety parameters as per the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011. In this regard, FSSAI had decided that the Certificate of Analysis for testing of imported proprietary food shall be accepted by Authorised Officer only if it is issued by ab ISO 17025 accredited lab of exporting country with a valid scope for those parameters and product matrix.
