Cabinet gives a nod to DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill, 2018

The DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill 2018 (“Bill”) has been approved by the Cabinet.

The Bill makes it mandatory for DNA laboratories to get accredited. It also seeks to ensure that with the proposed expanded use of this technology in the country, there is also the assurance that the DNA test results are reliable and the data remain protected from misuse or abuse in terms of the privacy rights of our citizens.

Please note that this update is based on a press release. We will share a more detailed update once we have clarity on the contents of the Bill.
