15 year old Petrol vehicles and 10 year old Diesel vehicles banned from plying in streets of Delhi, says Transport Department of NCT Delhi

In a recent Public Notice released by the Government of National Capital Territory (“NCT”), Delhi through the Transport Department dated 30th October, 2018, it has been directed that petrol vehicles which are more than 15 years old and diesel vehicles which are more than 10 years old will not be allowed to ply on the roads in the National Capital Region (“NCR”), effective immediately.

This direction has been passed in light of the recent order we shared earlier (reference trail mail) by National Green Tribunal (“NGT”) in matter of Vardhaman Kaushik Vs. Union of India and Others.

Key Highlights:

  • The Authorities will take appropriate steps against the vehicle owners which includes seizure and impounding of the said vehicles who violate the direction;
  • The list of such impounded vehicles will be published on the website of Transport Department and the website of Central Pollution Control Board;
  • Pursuant to the direction by NGT, Delhi, such vehicles will not be allowed to be parked in public area of NCR.
